Rail Ollie On
50 XP when a coach verifies it
What it is
Being able to ollie on to rails is going to open up lots of new potential lines for you to take around the park. With this one we are going to build up slowly on a small rail until you get comfortable enough to do it on some bigger ones!
How to do it
- Find a small feature such as a flat box or pipe
- Have a late cut and aim to just jib the end of the rail
- Stay low on the approach
- Let go with your back hand just before initiating the ollie
- Pop your ollie and lift the nose, then turn the board (exactly the same as when doing a transfer!)
- Jib the rail with your board and then progressively move the ollie further back until comfortable!
Common problems
- I can't make it on to the rail. You have to edge hard before your ollie to ensure you have enough momentum to get you on top the rail.
- I don't think my ollie is high enough. Go back and practice ollies with the lifted nose. Remember that one strong front foot pump is better than trying to bounce your way up!
- I slip out when I land on the rail. Remember to do all the work with your legs and hips. If you are pulling on the handle it will create slack and make it difficult to balance when you land!
Tracking your progress on this skill arrives with goals (task 2.6).
