Kicker Tantrum

50 XP when a coach verifies it

What it is

Hard heelside edge, square your shoulder & pop! Make sure to really open your chest and don't pull!

How to do it

  1. Hard heelside edge into the kicker
  2. Edge all the way up to the kicker
  3. Just before the kicker flatten off your board
  4. Bend your knees and open up your chest
  5. Keep weight on top of board and pop off the top of the kicker
  6. Quickly throw your head and look for the water
  7. Rotate around your arm and don't pull the handle in!

Common problems

  • The most common problem we see on the tantrum is people landing on their butts because they pull on the handle. This is almost guaranteed to happen to anybody who is trying a tantrum for the first time. Your brain will naturally think you are under rotating and will pull on the handle to turn your body so you will land on your back. To avoid this have a hard edge into the kicker and really focus on keeping tension in the line which you can then use to make small adjustments once you've spotted the landing.
  • If your board is hitting the rope really focus on squaring off your shoulders as you hit the kicker. Imagine turning your shoulders backside 45º before throwing it.
  • Make sure to edge all the way up to the kicker to avoid getting any slack in the line!
  • Always wait until the top of the kicker to pop up and over, never slip the flip off you heels!
