Kicker Frontroll

50 XP when a coach verifies it

What it is

So it's time to get upside down! The frontroll is a great place to start; just make sure you've got your toeside kickers on lock! Spotting the landing is a very important skill when it comes to landing any invert!

How to do it

  1. Have a hard toeside edge into the kicker (you can usually edge harder with just 1 hand on the handle)
  2. Flatten off before the kicker
  3. Get low and put your back hand up in the air
  4. At the top of the kicker pop up and throw your back hand and chest forward
  5. Put in enough power as if you wanted to over rotate
  6. Tuck in and keep looking for the water over your toes
  7. Spot the landing and bend knees to ride away

Common problems

  • Under rotating on your front rolls? The key to a good frontroll is to really use your legs at the top of the kicker to pop up and use your back arm to help you generate rotation. It's common to see people 'slipping' their frontrolls rather than popping. This is an unreliable way of performing them and can be quite dangerous.
  • If you find yourself twisting mid frontroll, focus on keeping your front arm strong and in line with your leading hip.
  • If you keep butt checking, make sure to keep looking for the water over your toes as you come over the top of the flip. If you are looking up at the sky, or on the wrong side of your front arm it's going to be very hard to land this one cleanly
