Kicker Backside 360s
50 XP when a coach verifies it
What it is
Backside 360's will really teach you how to generate lots of rotational power using a combination of tension and momentum, setting you up for much more technical riding around the park.
How to do it
- Heelside
- Have a medium to hard edge in to the kicker
- About 5 metres before the kicker extend both arms
- As you go up the kicker pull strong with 2 hands in to your hip whilst swinging your back arm round.
- Keep your chest up
- Pass the handle
- Look immediately for the water to spot landing
- Toeside
- Have a similar edge in to the kicker as the toeside backside 180
- Flatten the board off and extend your arm before the kicker
- Swing your back arm strong to initiate rotation
- Pass the handle
- Bring your back shoulder over and round to spot the landing over your toes
Common problems
- Heelside
- If you are struggling to get the handle pass really try to make sure that you're timing the pull correctly. Try and play around with pulling the handle earlier or later. Don't forget to use your back hand to swing hard for some extra rotational momentum!
- If you find yourself going off axis, remember to keep your chest up and avoid letting it dip. This will cause you to lose balance as you take off
- Toeside
- If you are struggling with this rotation make sure to go back and master toeside backside 180's. If you have got a good technique on those then the 360 should come very easily!
- If you fall over your heels when you try them make sure to really focus on bringing your shoulder round and over your toes!
