Heelside & Toeside Edging

10 XP when a coach verifies it

What it is

Establishing a strong heelside and toeside edging technique early on in your wakeboard journey will set you up to progress much faster in the future. Watch the video below and learn how to edge the right way!

How to do it

  1. Make sure you are in a good neutral riding position
  2. Transfer weight over your heels and toes to direct the board
  3. Use the edges of the board to push into the water and not the flat surface skimming
  4. Practice a slalom to learn how to quickly transfer weight from heels to toes.

Common problems

  • I have my weight over my heels but I can't turn. This can mean you are standing too tall. Make sure to stay low and really focus on using the edges of the board rather than skimming
  • My toeside edge is weak. Practice using your back arm as a "seatbelt" to lean into the edge more or try using just one hand to hold on to allow you to lean further.

What your coach looks for

Demonstrate controlled heelside and toeside edging while riding. The rider must show the ability to edge across the water on both the heelside and toeside edge while maintaining balance, body position, and control of the handle.
