Pressing

35 XP when a coach verifies it

What it is

It's time to learn how to do presses. By practicing with your board on the ground it can really help you to find that balance point whilst on the rails!

How to do it

  1. Practice shifting weight from foot to foot on the ground
  2. Start on a nice simple feature like a flat box
  3. Stay low and keep weight directly on top of board
  4. Keep chest up and slowly lean into the press
  5. Keep pressing leg bent and strong
  6. Keep arm strong and avoid pulling on the handle
  7. Slowly increase press intensity!

Common problems

  • If you lose balance on the rails whilst pressing make sure to keep your pressing leg bent and chest up. If you have a straight leg, or weight over your toes or heels it can make it very easy to slip out.
  • My board isn't flexing. Make sure to practice lots on the ground before trying to press on the rails. Remember it won't be perfect at first, but slowly over time your presses will improve.

Tracking your progress on this skill arrives with goals (task 2.6).
